The Trouble with Puppies

This is a sad post. And the fact that I stumbled across this blog today and found this specific blog post, I think is more than a coincidence. One of M.E.’s best buddies & groomsman had to have his sweet puppy, Ace, put down last night. It’s heartbreaking to think about that puppy smile no longer in this world. Natalie Jean said it perfectly:
“Puppies are a certain kind of heart break, I know that truth intimately. We love them like our children, though it isn't a fair comparison. When we bring babies into our family, we have every reason to believe that they will survive us. We plan for eighteen years plus the rest of our lives to love them, and barring illness or accidents, we do. But puppies won't stay for long. Ten years, fifteen at most. We bring these fur babies into our lives anyway, knowing full well that inevitably, they have to break our hearts. We willingly set ourselves up for this great, huge loss. We know the hole they are going to leave behind when they go. We know that puppies will always have to leave us too soon.”
I only knew Ace as an old man puppy, like very old, like in human years he was 98 at least. But when I saw him a few weeks ago he was still begging us to throw the ball. He would limp and slowly return it back to us and then beg some more. Gosh he drooled something gross but we didn’t hold it against him when he made our legs all slimy. According to his dad, pizza was his favorite food. He loved his daddy something awful, and his daddy loved him back. About a year ago, they lost their little friend Jack and the 3 musketeers became just a duo. They were roommates, besties, father & son, confidants.

I dread the day when we have to say goodbye to the Bo dog or when my parents have to say farewell to their Scout. But I have no doubt in my mind that there is a special doggy park in heaven with beggin’ strips a plenty and all of our furry friends are sitting patiently for their fur-parents to join them.

Tonight we’ll drink one for you our furry friend!

What I have recently learned

If you have a filling that needs to be refilled, and it happens to be on the very back most upper right tooth, they will most likely give you Novocain (so you can't eat or let alone speak right for the entire afternoon). It won’t hurt too badly and the whole dental visit won’t last too long, but it MAY numb the entire right side of your face, up to and including your eye. Then you might have a mini-panic attack fearing that your face will be stuck like this for your wedding day.

If you put on a cute dress and snap a picture of it to send to your fiance to remind him that this was the dress you were wearing when you met just to document, your dog MAY think you’re an idiot and ask you what you’re doing.

If you find a great deal on Groupon like I did, a 12-pack of racerback tank tops for uber cheap, your fiancé MAY think you have a tanktop problem when you squeal with delight as he brings the package inside after checking the mailbox.

If you’re obsessed like monograms and you check out this site, you MAY feel tempted to change your iPhone lock screen every day.

If you go to Publix and find they have awesomely perfectly round big ol’ pumpkins for sale you’ll probably buy one to put on the fireplace to make your home feel fall festive.

But you MAY forget that your dog, likeyou, has a fond taste of all things pumpkin and may take a little nibble. And by little nibble, eat the pumpkin like an apple.

Also, don't you like how my first reaction to bad news is that Bo ate something?

Weekend Recap

Well that weekend went by too fast. I was feeling a little under the weather (as I do every year when the season starts to change) so nothing too crazy happened. Friday night we went up to Level8 to grab a couple of drinks and watch part of our wedding band play during happy hour. On the plane back home from New York (after he had just proposed) the first thing wedding that we discussed was definitely having a live band rather than a DJ. We chose the same band that played at his brother’s wedding last fall, Southern Satisfaction, and after hearing them again Friday night we got so so excited. So we pretty much stayed until they stopped playing. Here’s a little sneak peak:
When we got home that night, I decided it was time to make a birthday cake for my friend Meghann who’s birthday brunch was the next morning. It was delicious in spite of the fact that I was 7 Samuel Adams Oktoberfest deep. (To make my strawberry box cake taste homemade I substituted almond milk for water and melted butter for oil. Call me Paula Bean.)
Meghann just got a new puppy, Lily, and Sarah brought her new puppy, Hank. Bo was pretty angry at us when we got home that afternoon and would not stop sniffing me with this angry Bo-face.
Baby Lily getting cuddles from Aunt Lori & Hank Wiliams below with his favorite Aunt & Uncle
We were going to go to the FSU game that night but because I was feeling sick-y and it was pouring outside, we stayed in and ate chicken wangs and tried not to get angry at ESPN3 for not streaming the game perfectly. But duh, FSU won. (Oh, and Brady & the Bean (my team) won in Fantasy Football this week!)
Sunday was pancakes at the house, laundry and rewatching Hunger Games, and a couple of hours at the office before a trip to Publix and grilled cheese & soup for dinner. We suffered through an hour or so of the Emmy’s before I went to bed. And by go to bed I mean read my book until midnight when M.E. came in and told me I was going to be pissed in the morning that I had done that... But it just got good!! Anybody else read ‘The Historian’by Elizabeth Kostova?

Gettin Swol'

So last night was my second Crossfit class! Last Monday after class I felt like I had been hit by a bus and was wobbling around all week. Last night either wasn't so bad or I've gotten stronger! Although, I will admit, this isn't the most intense Crossfit training... its more like Crossfit for wusses. But I'm a wuss.

After the gym I walked into the house to find that the Bo dog had eaten a homemade beeswax candle I had JUST received as a gift. Needless to say I was pissed and we didn't talk for like 2 whole hours. I forgave him though when he climbed on top of me on the couch to apologize later that night.

Just a girl and her dog
Oh, and tonight I am so excited to start working on Halie's wedding invitations! This girl's got vision and I can't wait to show her my designs!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Vi Shake

1 cup Almond Breeze unsweetened vanilla
1 teaspoon of sugar free fat free instant Chocolate Fudge Pudding mix

5 on Friday & #Backthatazzup

I'm back again, two days in a row?? Impressed right?
1. Guess what M.E. did yesterday? He finished the toilet. Yeah, he's pretty much the best fiance ever, check it out.

2. Guess what I made for dinner last night? Mexican shells and they were deliciously fattening. Check out the recipe here (I made beans and rice to go with.)

3. Guess what Mama and I are doing tomorrow? Picking up my wedding dress! Yup it was delivered super duper early to the Bridal Shop and now its time to take home! And by home I mean my parent's house because I don't want M.E. accidently peaking!

4. Getting a new roof today lalalaaaaa.

5. Next week is a 3 day week with a 4 day weekend! WHAT? So excited. Go America go!

The last 4th of July!

Back!

Where have I been?? Yeesh I just realized how long it has been since I’ve last posted! What happened? I don't feel like I've been that busy but considering the fact that I can't even remember what I wore yesterday maybe I have been. Let me catch you up right quick:

I’ve been dieting like whoa and I’ve lost 3 lbs since last Tuesday! I’ve exercised maybe a little… but I’m mostly just using the myfitnesspal app and counting calories. So maybe it's not the healthiest way but it seems to be working, so I don't hate it!

We gutted the downstairs bathroom and I tore all the wallpaper down and painted last weekend! This weekend hopefully we will install the new toilet and hang the new mirror. I have lots of things to spray paint for the walls but with this rainy weather headed our way I’m not sure if that is going to happen… I also have been searching high and low for the perfect shower curtain. Found one! Found it on Joss and Main's website, and unfortunately I don't have a picture so you'll have to wait til the mailman delivers it!

May baby brother graduated from high school and turned 18 this past week! I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that he is so old and so tall… I still picture both of my brothers as the little rascals that they were when we were kids. Now they are both so grown up and freaking smart. Taller than me and like freaking geniuses.

The envelopes for our Save the Dates have arrived!! I have almost everyone’s addresses and I will be sending the proofs to the printer this weekend! Can’t wait!

I’ve signed up for my first Cara Box exchange. What’s a Cara Box? Kaitlyn from Wifessionals created this exchange and I am beyond excited. I really think I am more excited to create my box for Shannon than I am to receive one! She is the cutest little pregnant lady ever expecting a baby boy with her adorable husband … The ideas for this month’s theme for The Fair are flowing! Although I won’t lie… I’m curious to see what Trish from I am Succeeding comes up with for my box! I just began reading her blog today and man is she heck of inspiring!!! I just love it! So excited.

And now, here’s an photo dump for your enjoyment.

MDW Recap

Happy TUESDAY bloggies! Yes, it feels so good to say Tuesday and not the M-word... That's why 3 day weekends are the best! I hope everyone had as fantabulous of a Memorial Day Weekend as we did! Ours was just perfect. Fun but not too crazy where we needed a vacation from our vacation.

Saturday we woke up early and head to the beach, Bo dog tagged along for a ride to the kennel.
Happy Bo dog
All smiles, excited to meet new puppy friends

First thing we did once we arrived to the beach out, beach gear & beers.

New beach pants from TJMaxx! (similar)
Perfection.

Then it was time for some dogs.
This was my favorite spot of the whole house.
I could eat this every day for the rest of my life. *not pictured, oreos & coorslight for dessert*

The boys went fishing and I took a nap by the pool before we headed back to the beach to explore the low tide.

It was beautiful!

Then it was back to the house for steaks, shot-gunning beer, boiled peanuts, and card games.

The next morning the boys were moving slow, so I went out to my favorite spot on the porch with a book and THE SOFTEST BLANKET EVER. I even took a picture of the tag so I can find one for myself.
Cloud blanket.

We got back to home Saturday night to nap, shower and head downtown for the free Thompson Square concert. We had such a good time!!

Yesterday was a lazy day with lots of 'Merican food (BBQ for lunch & burgers for dinner!) and a little laundry. We also got totally sucked into the tv show 'Falling Skies'... next weekend there is another marathon of Season 2, there goes my Saturday...

Friday Letters & #backthatazzup

Dear Friday: Oh heeeeey! Its great to see you, as always, but lets be swift this morning and skip right to 5:30, I've got fun things to do!

Dear Keurig Machine: I am angry at you and M.E. for not having my back this week. Ever since you've come into our home I've slowly become a coffee person. This week, even after my cup of coffee every morning, I've been moving slow and having headaches. Last night M.E. asks why I had bought decaf coffee. "WHAT? Is that what the problem was?! Why didn't you tell me??" Why couldn't there be a thing on the Keurig that says "Btdubs, you know this is decaf right?" and I'd be like "Oh crap, no I didn't! Thanks for the heads up!" Anyway, my sweet fiance left me the last caffeinated coffee cup this morning and today I'm feeling better than ever!

Dear Bo dog: Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you! The vet says you've lost 24 lbs since you're last visit! Now if only you could teach us your weight-loss tricks...
Skinny happy pup after the vet visit

Dear Ikat 'dress: I love you. I bought you as a bathing suit cover-up because I loved your pattern and I sewed up your sides to make you more modest (the slits up to my hips would not have been office appropriate). Now every time I wear you I get compliments and I am so proud of myself!

Dear Memorial Day: Thank you for providing us with this 3 day weekend of glorious beach time. Its a weekend away with the boys but that's ok because all I need is the sun and my books and some dranks, oh and Matty's grilling skills. Definitely looking forward to seeing Chef Matt in action!
2 of the goofs I will be spending the long weekend with, Matty & Stan
Dear little brother: I cannot believe you are graduating from high school in 5 days! I'm just now coming to terms that you are almost a foot taller than me and way smarter than me... The idea of you at FSU kinda freaks me out, not gonna lie!
Baby bro & his girlfriend, Morgan, before their Senior Prom

I hope everyone has a fantabulous long weekend! Now get pumped, it's time for #backthatazzupfriday with Ms. Witty Whit!
